Introduction

Camp Network is a purpose-built Layer 1 blockchain designed for the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence and intellectual property (IP). Camp allows users to tokenize any form of IP - music, images, videos, or even personal data - giving them direct ownership and control.

Today, user-owned IP is among the most valuable assets, yet it remains largely concentrated in the hands of centralized tech conglomerates. Blockchain offers a unique solution for this: complete sovereignty where users maintain full control over their IP without reliance on intermediaries. This ownership model empowers users to not only own and monetize on their IP, but moreover enables a future of agent-to-agent interactions where specialized AI agents can be trained on user-owned IP and multiple agents can collaborate, exchange data and generate IP that communities can co-own and benefit from.

To power this ecosystem, Camp’s novel Proof of Provenance Protocol, comprised of its proprietary Origin and mAItrix frameworks, enshrines registration, licensing and royalty distribution directly at the execution layer and optimizes for agentic-driven workflows.

Why Now?

Effective IP management has become more critical than ever. Historically, copyright enforcement efforts have targeted platforms like Pirate Bay for general file sharing, LimeWire for music, and BitTorrent for video - platforms that facilitated widespread unauthorized distribution of copyrighted content. However, the rise of AGI has made it even more challenging to enforce such protections, driving the proliferation of unauthorized derivatives like deepfakes, often created without the consent of original IP holders.

Even the world's largest companies and creators are being negatively impacted by the rise of unauthorized content creation:

• Hollywood: Facing job security concerns due to the use of LLM-powered tools for scriptwriting and voice acting.
• Sony: Launched its own blockchain, Soneium, to help mitigate copyright infringement.
• Disney: Introduced NFTs to verify the authenticity of original content.
• Drake: His voice was replicated without consent to create and release a new song.

As AI systems continue to generate more content and even register IP autonomously, original creators are often excluded from the value their work generates. This growing challenge highlights the need for a verifiable, onchain system to protect intellectual property rights, ensuring proper attribution and fair compensation for all IP holders.

Camp Network - The Autonomous IP Layer

Camp Network is purpose-built to power the agentic economy, where autonomous AI systems can own, create and monetize IP. Using Camp, users can register their IP onchain, train and deploy AI agents, have those agents generate new IP, and earn royalties whenever their agents' outputs are used. Camp’s architecture ensures that creators are compensated for agent-driven innovations while reshaping the future of decentralized creativity and ownership.

Why an L1?

Initially, we explored building our IP registry and corresponding ecosystem using an Optimistic rollup. However, after deploying the L2 and onboarding a strong ecosystem of teams, we identified several critical limitations in the rollup architecture:

• Inefficient IP Management: Struggled with handling IP-specific transactions such as registrations, licensing and royalty distributions efficiently.
• Limited IP Consumption: Lacked flexibility for apps to seamlessly consume, produce and interact with tokenized IP.

By contrast, Layer 1 blockchains offer the flexibility to integrate precompiles directly at the execution layer, enabling optimized handling of IP. In traditional networks, validators prioritize transactions with the highest MEV, often favoring DeFi transactions over others. By customizing our execution layer, BaseCAMP (L1) can prioritize IP transactions, ensuring lower costs and faster settlement. This design supports gasless registration and royalty distribution, creating a more optimal experience for users and developers.
