The club born a champion.
Club Sporting Cristal is one of Peru’s most celebrated football clubs, founded in Lima in 1955 by Richard Bentín Mujica and Esther Grande de Bentín, in close association with the Backus and Johnston brewery — earning them the nickname Los Cerveceros (“The Brewers”). Known as El club que nació campeón (“The club born a champion”) for winning the national title in their debut season, Cristal has remained a dominant force in Peruvian football, claiming 19 league titles and never facing relegation. With a legacy that includes a historic Copa Libertadores runner-up finish and the longest unbeaten streak in the tournament’s history, Sporting Cristal represents a tradition of excellence, consistency, and national pride.
